passivhausMAINE is looking for a Training Director to join their amazing team. The ideal candidate is organized, super friendly and committed to expanding Maine’s construction workforce for an equitable climate forward future.

This position is full-time and is hybrid with anticipated travel throughout the state of Maine. phME is based in Freeport, ME.
We seek an individual with fluency in building science who can communicate well with both building industry professionals and everyday folks who want to learn more. It’s a broad range of skills, and we are looking to hire someone who is versatile and enjoys working in this hybrid-type job. Anyone with an interest in sustainability, energy, architecture/engineering/construction, and climate change/climate justice with experience teaching is encouraged to apply.

The Training Director's Responsibilities:
VISION:
Strong ability to think and plan strategically and support long-term planning and organizational vision-work. Diversify and increase Maine’s construction workforce to advance resilience and energy reduction in the built environment and promote well-paid jobs and craftsmanship.
Lead passivhausMAINE’s education and training program, including but not limited to
- Workshops: community, professional, educational elementary through high school classroom events
- webinars
- conference presentations

Create and manage curricula and content, including
- retrofitMAINE
- Pre-apprenticeship
- High school-level workshops
- Elementary school presentations
- Certification and mini-cert programs
- Retrofit

Be thoughtful about how people learn, grow, and process new information
Able to help build and support a network of people and organizations through community outreach
MANAGEMENT:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the desire and ability to build and maintain relationships. phME prides itself on strong and active local, regional, national and international partnerships
- Develop a calendar of events in tandem with the Program Director and retrofitMAINE Director
- Develop, maintain, and update training materials and templates in print, digital, and video formats
- Engage and manage outside providers to deliver content
- Lead marketing and outreach efforts for training programs in partnership with the Program Director
- Provide a smooth experience for participants in training programs, from registration through evaluation, in partnership with the Program Director
- Manage registration process
- Communicate details about logistics and any preparation necessary before training begins
- Prepare event spaces (in person or online)
- Responsible for event technology
- Evaluate each training and use this feedback to inform future offerings
- Work with the Program Director to track and report on demographic data of participants with the aim of ensuring equity in participation
- Attend industry training to learn about new approaches, techniques and technology and build skills and connections
- Collaborate with Grant Writer to develop programming in response to shared needs and gaps as articulated in grant applications
- Participate as needed in grant program design and grant application review and reporting
- Work well with a team - possessing skills of honest communication, ability to be with difference, discomfort and a willingness to grow in self-awareness and leadership. As part of being a strong team member also participating in all staff meetings, retreats and gatherings, except for occasions when cannot/does not make sense.

passivhausMAINE is a proud member of NESEA, MANP, E2tech and Maine Public Health Association, we have signed MOUs with RMI, UNECE, UNEP and Enniscorthy International Forum. Globally, there are a number of institutions and organizations which are tackling various aspects of building science and contributing to lowering our energy needs and carbon emissions. passivhausMAINE supports all contributions to the collective advancement of building science and energy/carbon reduction in our built environment. passivhausMAINE hosts and supports training by PHN, PHI and PHIUS.
Preferred Skills
- Experience coordinating training or education programs for adults
- Office/operations management experience
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Financial and budgeting literacy
- Facility with technology, including databases, creative software, spreadsheets, online meetings
- Experience with construction, specifically Passive House techniques
Compensation Range
$60,000-$65,000
